⚠️ Nassau County ≠ City Resident City resident means Fernandina Beach city limits — not Nassau County, not the broader island. The city was rejecting ~20% of permit applications from people with Fernandina Beach mailing addresses who live outside city limits. If you’re unsure, call One Parking before assuming you qualify. Non-city residents: $124/year or $60/month.

Salt My Heart Insider Tip
“The City Hall lot on S. 2nd and Ash is genuinely the most underused spot in downtown. Completely free after 5pm on weekdays and all day on weekends — four minutes’ walk to Centre Street. If you’re coming downtown for dinner on a Saturday, park here before you start circling. You’ll already have a table by the time tourists are still driving around.”
🗳️ Heads Up: This Program May Change A citizen-led referendum is expected on the August/November 2026 ballot — Fernandina Beach city residents only. The city is treating the current program as a data-gathering trial run. We’ll update this post when there’s news.

What Locals Know and Visitors Don’t —
Save These Numbers: Local Services Beat Uber Every Time
Uber and Lyft are inconsistent here — especially late nights and peak weekends. These are the operators residents actually use.
🚙
Amelia Limousine — David
The “David” locals have been recommending for years
This is the David locals mean when they say “call David.” Luxury black vehicles, tracks your flight by number so he’s there when you land — even for late arrivals. Consistently noted as early, not just on time. Serves JAX airport and all local FBOs including Bent Wing Aviation, Signature, and Sheltair.

Daniel Transportation of Nassau
Local family-owned · 24/7 · Cards & cash
The island’s longest-running local taxi service — family-owned, native to Nassau County, genuinely available around the clock. Airport runs are a specialty. Not a limo experience — this is your dependable everyday island taxi, the one locals save for when the apps let them down.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car
The only major rental car company on the island
Located at 2440 S. 8th Street. The only traditional car rental on Amelia Island. Pick-up service available. After-hours returns accepted. Call ahead — inventory can be limited on peak weekends.
📍 2440 S. 8th Street🚗 Pick-up Available📞 (904) 261-1050
📱 What About Uber & Lyft? Both operate on the island but availability is genuinely inconsistent — especially late nights and peak season weekends. If you’re relying on a rideshare for a specific time, have a local service number as a backup. Most locals keep Daniel Transportation saved for exactly this reason.
💡 When to Skip the Car
💡
The honest local calculus —
Drive Downtown vs. Leave the Car Home
Fernandina Beach is walkable and bikeable. Sometimes driving is genuinely the worst option — not just because of parking, but because the island is beautiful and small.
  • You have more than 30 min of errands
  • You’re carrying heavy bags or groceries
  • It’s raining or you have young kids in tow
  • You’re going somewhere beyond walking distance
  • You need parking for more than 4 hours (use a surface lot with your permit)
Leave the Car Home When…
  • Dinner downtown — call Daniel or David instead
  • Quick coffee or Centre Street browse (20-min grace covers you)
  • Sunday before 1pm — walk or bike, the streets are beautiful
  • You live within 2 miles — parking stress kills the evening
  • Shrimp Festival, major events — parking becomes genuinely miserable
🥦
The Real Local Move
“Dinner downtown on a Friday night? Call ahead to Daniel Transportation or David, split the cost with whoever you’re going with, and actually enjoy a glass of wine with your meal without doing the math on how many hours you’ve been parked. The whole night costs less than the stress of circling and nursing one drink because you’re driving. Island life is supposed to feel easier than where you came from — let it.”
